A flurry of rumors has emerged about PlayStation and Gamescom.
As reported by MP1st, Nash Weedle claims that some 3rd party studios are avoiding being linked from their brand. Sony is getting the same reactions from their partners that they’re getting online, and it’s making them change their communication strategy. But we could guess that Sony was making changes after telling investors that they saw the backlash.
Eurogamer Spain editor Ruben Mercado shared even more bombastic rumors after attending Gamescom in their latest podcast. According to Ruben, Sony is thinking twice about going all-digital.
Xbox apparently told publishers that Project Helix would be an all-physical console. Furthermore, one major partner has threatened Sony that they would skip PlayStation for Xbox and Nintendo if they didn’t offer a physical media option. Ruben was very clear that these were rumors and he didn’t claim to be certain.
Industry veteran Richard Browne went on social media to debunk these claims, but we have to point out Sony has not come forward to deny or confirm them.
While these rumors seem unlikely, it will be interesting to see if a major 3rd party game really does skip PlayStation in the future.
