Starbreeze has announced a new deal for Payday that not even the fans may have expected… and it just might save the franchise.

Starbreeze Entertainment together with VICE Studios (Gangs of London) have partnered with Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson and his G-Unit Film & Television, to executive produce an adaptation of Starbreeze’s iconic, long-running video game franchise PAYDAY® for global audiences.
As unexpected as it may seem, VICE and 50 Cent are teaming up to bring Payday to Hollywood. The press release does not specify if they will be making a movie, a show, or maybe even both.
Starbreeze is rolling the dice with this move, but it’s not the worst idea. Xbox has seen both monumental success and failure in adapting two of their video game franchises to shows, in Halo and Fallout.
It’s certainly a welcome change of pace from Starbreeze having to compensate for the market failure of Payday 3 by going back to Payday 2. This deal alone could net them enough money to fix everything that ails Payday 3, and maybe give it a redemption arc on the next generation of consoles.
