It’s been four months since we got hints that Diablo 4 would be coming to Nintendo Switch 2. Now, we have a disappointing confirmation to that rumor.

Writing for Dealabs, billbil-kun claims that the game is actually arriving soon, either on September 15 or 18, 2026. It could be announced as soon as Gamescom 2026, coming later this month. Nintendo and Xbox have both confirmed they will be coming to Cologne for this trade show.
However, as you’ve seen in the headline, Diablo 4’s Switch 2 retail release will come as a code-in-a-box. It’s not a Game Card, or even a Game-Key Card. billbil-kun says it’s getting priced at $ 69.99, and he’s not sure if it will come bundled with the new expansions.
It’s disappointing news for sure, but this is also the case because other Xbox studios have chosen differently. Bethesda’s Indiana Jones and The Great Circle and The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered have both been released on Game Card.
We understand it’s unrealistic to expect all Switch 2 games to come this way, but even Game-Key Cards are preferable to this.
