Dataminers have found one of the most disturbing bugs in Grand Theft Auto Online.

We’ll let GTAWeb contributor Harryodini588 share their findings:

Dead rabbits in the pool of the Vinewood Residency Mansion in #GTAOnline

– the animal spawns under the pool + mansion have not been disabled, so you sometimes can hear a rabbit dying.

RandomWeirdThings 248 shared a video that actually shows this in action, complete with explanation. So if you were wondering why you were hearing these strange noises in the pool, this is what it is.

Why Did Rockstar Do This?

Rockstar didn’t tell the fans anything about this, but there’s probably no malicious intent behind it.

This is probably some content that was cancelled for the mansions. Unfortunately, they also failed to remove all the code that makes this happen.

Why would rabbits be spawning in a swimming pool? The rabbits may be erroneously mapped to the Vinewood mansion’s swimming pool.

These rabbits are probably supposed to spawn in the wild areas of Los Santos, maybe as something you could hunt for food, or for predators in those areas to hunt.

Alternately, Rockstar may have originally wanted to give you rabbit pets alongside cat and dog pets. And when they cancelled this idea, they left some code behind.

And there is always the possibility that this is not cut content, but future content. If this content is already working, Rockstar may have intended to keep it hidden until the schedule comes up.

And a coder may have had the bright idea to hide the rabbits under the swimming pool. If this was the case, that coder inadvertently acted like some Grand Theft Auto Online players.

Are They Really Ghost Rabbits?

Well, we know some readers will argue that the rabbits are still alive at the moment they are spawned. We’re not going to dispute that case.

But if you consider it, because these rabbits were generated, they hypothetically exist under your mansion’s swimming pool concrete long after you hear their screams.

So sure, when you hear those rabbits scream, they are still alive for the few seconds they are heard. But you now have to deal with the knowledge that Rockstar has given everyone a haunted Vinewood mansion.

We’re kidding, of course, this is all just an error in the code. We have a suspicion this could become one of the most infamous glitches in the franchise’s history, as more and more players buy the Vinewood mansions, and start finding out about the screams.

Poor rabbits. https://t.co/KrvbVQc8Qr pic.twitter.com/0asdfmReVG
