Anniversaries are something we’ve liked to cover here on GameRanx for various reasons. However, in the case of the one we’re going to talk about today, it’s likely to be a little bit painful. You see, on Reddit, someone pointed out that yesterday was the 2-year anniversary of Rockstar Games posting the teaser for the very first trailer of GTA 6. The teaser in question announced that the trailer would come out on December 5th in the early morning, sparking a frenzy on the internet that would carry over for weeks to come. A lot of things have happened since that announcement, and many are still coping with it.
Rewinding the clock a bit, though, two years ago, we barely knew anything about GTA 6. The reason the teaser image was so invigorating to some was because we were FINALLY going to get some confirmed information about the title. You have to remember that before the first trailer ever dropped, there was a huge leak at Rockstar Games that showed alpha footage of the title. Due to that, there were a lot of rumors and misinformation going around about what would be in the game, what wouldn’t be in the game, and so on.
Then, the first trailer dropped, and we not only got confirmation about the main characters, Jason and Lucia, but we got a true first look at the modern-day Vice City and how gorgeous the game looked, alongside the “Florida craziness” that would be on display within. The trailer would go on to become the most-viewed trailer in YouTube history!
However, on Reddit, the reactions to this “reminder” of better days has been a bit mixed, with many looking at the negative side of things:
“I couldve gone the entire 2 years knowing this game didnt exist until they were actually ready to release it. Tired of the long form blue balls these game studios do when they announce games years before they release.”
Others wished that they had been more “honest” about the release date:
“They could have simply put “coming soon 2026” at the end of the trailer.”
And some tried to put a positive spin on things:
“Hey, it could be worse. We could be waiting for Winds of Winter.”
So, yeah, a mixture of emotions here, but that’s what you have to expect when you’re dealing with something like this. The game is still coming, it’s just taking a lot longer than people hoped.
