Just How “Florida” Will GTA 6 Go?

November 25, 2025 by Todd Black

It’s a strange place to live.

Inspirations come from all over the place. That’s just how life works. You never know what will be the “spark” that helps you decide what direction to go in, and where to take things on the journey you’re on. In game development, inspiration can come from other titles, new twists on what someone else has done before, or something you experience in real life that you want to put into game form. When the very first trailer for GTA 6 came out, it didn’t hide the fact that, aside from the natural crime saga they were going to show off, the team at Rockstar Games was going to invoke the phrase “Stranger Than An Average Day In Florida” as far as possible.

For proof of this, you need only look at a comparison trailer of the events shown in the trailer and how they were based on real-life events within Florida, which is the inspiration for the setting of Leonida. However, on Reddit, a fan asks an honest question of “just how far will they go” with that inspiration:

“Vice City had Scarface and Miami Vice references galore and I was just thinking about what other pop culture Florida things we might see that others know so we can be in on the references. We have plenty of time to educate ourselves now.

I just started watching Burn Notice for the first time and the show is set in Miami. Maybe we have an encounter with a former spy or if we have the heist crew like 5 did maybe a bio for one of the crew is they’re a former spy. Or we could just have Bruce Campbell show up.”

We think it’d be awesome if Bruce Campbell appeared in the game, and he has done voice work for video games in the past!

Anyway, pop culture references are indeed something that could easily find its way into GTA 6, but how much farther could they go? It really depends on what Rockstar Games wants to show off in its title. For example, fans have talked about using a hurricane as the setting for a mission or two, given Florida’s reputation with them, especially in recent years.

If they REALLY wanted to push things, they could show off Florida politics, which has been anything but stable or sane.

It would also be funny to see how Jason and Lucia, who are far more “stable” than certain Florida residents, react to all that’s happening around them in Leonida. Something to consider when you get to play the game.
