Civilization VII Team Drops Fan Survey

October 10, 2025 by Todd Black

Have a complaint? Let them know about it!

There was a time in the gaming space that “fan feedback” could only be taken after the game had launched. After all, there was no true internet at the time, and the only thing that fans could weigh in on was things like official art that was shown and certain trailers that were released. Plus, given how game design worked back then, once a game was done, it was done. However, with the digital age, developers like Firaxis can listen to their players and see what to change in real-time. To that end, Civilization VII has gotten a survey that players like you can take right now to see how things might shift in the future.

You can access the survey via the tweet below, and like many surveys, it’ll ask pretty detailed questions, so don’t be afraid to “let loose” and make clear “how you really feel” about the game. According to the comments in the tweet, many players did indeed “spell out” what they told Firaxis.

Civ fans, we want to hear from you.

Our Civilization VII survey is open until October 14, and you can take it in-game or at the link below.

Your feedback helps us keep improving – thanks from everyone at Firaxis!

For example, one did not hold back about the key thing he felt was the worst part of the game:

“Forcing the change of civilizations and leaders between ages was a dumb move and nobody asked for that. End of survey.”

That is indeed a key change from past titles to this one, as it breaks the immersion of having to sustain one empire/civilization from one age to the next. Others took a more poetic approach to their apply, while also stating that they don’t feel it’ll actually do much:

“Alright I took the survey. I legitimately poured my heart out in it and it pained me greatly. I hope you take the time to read these even if they come off super negative… Because well, the game has left a very negative impression on me. I see very few paths forward unfortunately.”

And if you want an even more depressing reply, we got you covered:

“I’m not going to waste my time. You guys knew full well what civ fans wanted before you launched this half baked Humankind clone and you still went ahead with it anyways. It’s clear that you’ve lost the vision of what CIV is. I’ve moved on and won’t be returning to CIV7.”

Yep, that’s pretty harsh, and it makes it clear that Civilization VII was not the game that many wanted, and that even if it gets “fixed” now, it might not bring them back. Firaxis truly has its work cut out for it.
