Nate The Hate might be playing rumor killer for a Grand Theft Auto IV remaster.

Nate The Hate received this question from Twitter user NikoBellic__1:

does a GTA IV remaster exist?

To which he responded:

Don’t know. I haven’t heard anything about a GTA4 Remaster.

JasonDuval_1 then doubled down on this question:

Wait, you don’t know about gta 4 anything news?

Nate then made this clarification:

I have no info about a GTA4 Remaster.

Why Did Fans Think A Remaster Is Coming?

This rumor seems to have been around for some time now.

We reported on this remaster dating back to 2021, from Twitter user RalphsValve. But that rumor already got debunked, because he predicted it was coming in 2023.

More recently, Tez2 claims an insider told him this project was in the works. In fact, it’s the reason that the Liberty City Preservation Project was taken down.

Is A Modern Remaster Justified?

Last month, fan project Fusion Fix 4.0 released to the public. This is a fan mod that updates Grand Theft Auto IV for newer platforms.

Fusion Fix seems to show that there are a lot of things that Rockstar can do to bring the game up to the standards of modern gaming.

In fact, the mods went so far as to reprogram certain elements in the game, such how the sunlight reflects down to make a more believable simulation of early dawn.

The Case To Just Rerelease The Old Game

It’s highly likely that gamers can get the base version of Grand Theft Auto IV that you can buy on Steam or Rockstar’s store on modern PCs.

In fact, one could argue that this is a valuable experience in itself. Even if you don’t think the PS360 generation holds up, there’s something to remembering how games used to play nearly two decades ago.

One could also point to Rockstar’s rerelease of Red Dead Redemption to the PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch. Rockstar acquiesced on a performance patch for PlayStation 5, but they didn’t do that much more.

At least we can say that that rerelease proves that a Grand Theft Auto IV remaster would not go the way of a Grand Theft Auto : The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition. Rockstar understands that the fans have high standards and they can’t take a slapdash approach to this.

For what it’s worth, we would rather not get a remaster if they are not going to do it right. But we’ll see if this rumored remaster eventually sees the light of day.
