Grand Theft Auto IV could soon see a new release into the marketplace. While fans of the franchise have been mainly focused on the next installment, Grand Theft Auto VI, another game could come this year. A new report from an industry insider has made new claims online about what they have recently heard about this previous installment.
It’s been a long time since we saw the release of Grand Theft Auto IV. Fans were given this installment back in 2008, in which players would venture into Liberty City as Eastern European war veteran Niko Bellic. Trying to escape his past life, Niko soon has to resort to a life of crime. Much like previous installments before it, GTA 4 had a strong following.
However, the game was only released on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and the PC platform. According to industry insider Tez2, they recently commented about the future of this game on GTA Forums. According to the insider, he has heard an interest in getting a GTA 4 port out on modern consoles. It’s also one of the reasons he believes this was why Rockstar Games had the Liberty City Preservation Project taken down.
Someone at R* hinted at the IV port, and by now it should’ve gone up a year in development. We may end up seeing it drop later this year. And it’s one more reason, in addition to existing reasons, the LCPP mod was taken down. If they still follow their plan laid out from the pandemic days, they’ll do an MP3 port after IV. So that is an opportunity to do a bundle or a Definitive Edition. Max Payne 1 & 2 remakes, and a Max Payne 3 port. –Tez2
With delays pushing Grand Theft Auto VI out of this year, we might see GTA 4 pushed forward. If that’s the case, we might see the game drop on modern platforms this year, with even plans of a Max Payne 3 port to follow after. Of course, this is just a rumor right now, as nothing official has come out regarding another release for the game.
Meanwhile, as we noted, Grand Theft Auto VI was pushed out of its planned 2025 launch window. We’ll instead get the game in May 2026, so we have a year to wait. Fortunately, the developers did offer a new trailer to help tie us over a little longer.
