Did Fans Just Make The Definitive Version Of Grand Theft Auto IV?

September 16, 2025 by Ryan Parreno

Rockstar has a reputation for not preserving their own million dollar classics.

A new fan mod has drummed up so much interest that it’s coming up in video game news websites, like GameRanx.

Fusion Fix has released a new trailer with this description:

Fusion Fix for Grand Theft Auto IV: The Complete Edition is a comprehensive open-source modification that aims to fix a wide range of technical issues, bugs, and limitations in the game that were left unaddressed in official updates. This project represents a community-driven effort to restore and enhance the Grand Theft Auto IV experience for modern systems.

No, This Isn’t Pirating Grand Theft Auto IV

As a fan mod, you will need a PC copy of Grand Theft Auto IV: The Complete Edition to make Fusion Fix work. How you find a way to get a copy of that game is beyond the control of this dev team.

We will say that Grand Theft Auto IV: The Complete Edition is available on Steam for cheap. It will, however, require you log on to a Rockstar account and agree to their EULA.

That will likely be the easiest way to get a copy of the game now, but you may want to try this mod out anyway. Here’s why.

What Does Fusion Fix Do?

Fusion Fix addresses all the technical issues present in the game that Rockstar never addressed. Some fans will argue that they enjoy the game just fine. But if you’re the kind of fan who always wanted to see the game at its best, you’ll want to give this a try.

We won’t run down all those fixes below. But to give you an idea, they fixes Definition mode so that it works properly. Now, Definition no longer adds blurriness because of faulty anti-aliasing code.

They also fixed depth of field so that it scales properly under this mode. Plus, you can turn it on and off. They’ve also fixed motion blur so that it works the way you expect it to.

They Added New Stuff, Too!

Once again, we won’t talk about all the new things they added in detail here. But the Fusion Fix team has gone as far as adding support for new controllers (even the Switch Pro controller!) as well as a simple walk/run toggle button.

We know these are things that Rockstar can do if they produced proper remakes of these games. Unfortunately, we have seen how Take-Two has failed to properly take care of their Grand Theft Auto legacy so far.

While we wait for Take-Two to find a way to justify remakes of their classic games to their shareholders, we have modders to thank for efforts like Fusion Fix. You can download the mod in Github here and watch the official trailer below.
