Nintendo Looking To Clear Out Switch Game Compatibility Issues For The Switch 2

April 9, 2025 by Dennis Patrick

Nintendo wants to work closely with third-party partners.

The Nintendo Switch 2 is coming our way in just a few short months. Nintendo is also coming off a big week. If you caught it last week, this gaming behemoth unveiled more about the upcoming Switch 2 in a direct presentation. However, it was even earlier this year that we first got our look at the console and confirmation that some Nintendo Switch games would be compatible with the new console.

There’s a push for backward compatibility for the new console. However, not every game was supported. We have since seen some of the games that are not working at the moment, and it’s leaving some fans a bit bummed out. Not all of these games are minor releases, but it might only be a matter of time before more games receive official support.

Thanks to a report from Gamespot, we’re finding out they had the chance to speak with Nintendo’s Technology Development Division General Manager, Tetsuya Sasaki. During the conversation, the topic of third-party partners came up, as did some of the games that are not running properly on the Switch 2.

Yes, Nintendo has worked very hard at figuring out how to make a wide variety of games compatible with the Nintendo Switch 2,” Sasaki explained. “And as the Nintendo Switch 2 became more and more complete and entered its final form, we really realized how important it is for us to work very closely together with our third-party partners. And that is how this list came about. – Tetsuya Sasaki

According to Tetsuya Sasaki, Nintendo wants to work closely with third-party partners and is already looking at some fixes. These fixes could hopefully have a wide effect and clear up issues for a variety of games. Meanwhile, I’m sure that some developers might have a better sense of making adjustments when more developer kits are sent out.

Regardless, it’s reassuring that Nintendo is also working to help some games become compatible. Of course, there might be more concerning issues for some consumers. Those in the United States and, most recently, Canada were left out of access to preorders. It’s uncertain when preorders will finally open up for these markets, but you can read more about that move here.
