Find More Multiplayer Games Coming In 2025
#24 Light No Fire
We’re going to start with a much different game than you would expect. Light No Fire is the next title from Hello Games, and yes, they’ve learned from past mistakes. Instead of giving you a vast universe to explore, though, they’re giving players a massive world to explore and do with what they will.
If you’re thinking, “But what’s the main story?” That’s the rub, there really isn’t one. The point of the game is that you aren’t the “hero of legend” or something to that effect. You’re a singular being who can work their way through this world and see what adventures lie ahead. Make of that what you will.
#23 Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era
If you’re looking for a more classic competitive experience, one where you’ll be putting armies of characters against one another for fun and strategy, you’ll want to try out Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era.
The game is a continuation of the beloved franchise but puts its setting in a new part of the world that hasn’t been explored before. Once you get your feet wet, you’ll want to dive into the multiple multiplayer modes that will have you either building up squads of heroes to take on foes or you can try to take everyone down with a single hero!
Either way, you’ll have plenty to do.
#22 Terminator: Survivors
When you’re competing against the entity known as Skynet, and it has an army of Terminators at its beck and call, judgment day truly feels inevitable.
However, in Terminator: Survivors, hope isn’t quite lost just yet. Set in the immediate years after Skynet took over and nuked the world, pockets of survivors are trying to make life happen once more in this desolate place. You will be the leader of one of these groups and have to venture out carefully to both get supplies, fight off the machines, and learn the truth about everything that’s happening around you.
Your survival is paramount, so be wise with every move you make, or bullet you fire.
#21 Chrono Odyssey
You’ll be seeing quite a few MMORPGs on this list, and Chrono Odyssey is the second of the bunch. One of the defining features of this particular title is that it’ll be powered by Unreal Engine 5. That means you’ll have plenty of beautiful things to look at while you explore this vast fantasy world.
The key feature of the gameplay, though, is the special use of time. Characters will be able to freeze enemies in place or even turn back their own personal time so that they can undo mistakes. Things will be fast, furious, and crazy with time going in all sorts of directions.
#20 Den of Wolves
So, who’s up for a heist in one of the most advanced and corrupt places in the world? In Den of Wolves, you’ll be a gang of thieves working in Midway City. Here, corporations of all kinds are constantly trying to sabotage each other and get the latest and greatest tech that they’re producing. To get it, you’ll need to assemble the perfect team and retrieve the goods without getting caught.
So, how will you go about completing these missions? That’s up to you, and you’ll have fun with friends trying to see who can not just pull off the most jobs, but who can do it the best.
#19 Little Nightmares III
Have you ever felt that you were competing against a world that was actively trying to kill you? In Little Nightmares III, you’ll feel that sense of impending doom as you try to get yourself and your co-op partner out of the realm of Nowhere. You’ll play as Low and Alone in this co-op adventure and have to work your way through the mysterious Spiral to see if there is any way to freedom.
Along the way, you’ll encounter numerous monsters, puzzles, and threats, and only together can you make it out. So, rely on one another, trust in one another, and don’t let this world end you.
#18 State of Decay 3
Sometimes, the true competitiveness is simply staying alive in the face of overwhelming obstacles and terrors. In State of Decay 3, you’ll be part of a community, whether you play alone or with someone else, and attempt to reform a life for yourselves in the wake of a zombie apocalypse.
You’ll do various tasks, attempt to build and fortify defenses and kill any of the undead that comes your way.
However, the true “test” is doing your best not to let any of your community be killed. If they die, they’re gone for good. Fight for your life and the lives of others so that humanity can live on.
#17 Blight Survival
Are you ready to face a terror that this world has never seen before? In Blight Survival, you’ll find yourself in the middle of a terrifying war when the unthinkable happens. Within the dreaded “No Man’s Land,” a mysterious plague is infecting the dead, bringing them to life and sending them against the two armies.
You are one of the brave few who dares to go up against this threat and must venture deep into the unknown to see what the source of this madness is and then wipe it out.
How far can you and others go on each trip? Know your limits, or you’ll be the one the blight infects next!
#16 The Quinfall
When you think about games that are aiming to be quite competitive, you likely picture ones with smaller worlds or maps so that players can go at one another quickly and thus get to the action quickly. However, games like The Quinfall are the opposite of that, as it’s an MMORPG and it has the largest map in genre history. That’s pretty big.
That means that the “competitiveness” lies in either fighting the players you can truly find or trying to build a good life for yourself here that others can’t compete against. The world is constantly changing, which means that your actions will change the world, too. So, go and see what you can transform the world into!
#15 Killing Floor 3
When discussing a game like Killing Floor 3, the competitiveness element is truly built right in. We’re not even talking about how it’s an FPS title or how you can do co-op with six players here. Instead, the competitiveness lies in the simple fact that the game encourages you to go nuts and kill the monsters that are coming your way.
That’s really the whole point of the game. Sure, there’s a story campaign, but it’s all about facing hordes of monsters and mowing them down. Plus, in the multiplayer modes, you can choose to be one of the monsters and kill your friends as one of them! Fun times!
#14 ARC Raiders
Imagine a world where enemies from above force humanity to go underground to survive. That is the world of ARC Raiders. Here, mechanical entities from above are trying to pick off the remains of humanity, who have made colonies underground to stave off their attacks.
As one of the raiders, your job is to go above ground and get the loot you need to both help the people, and get paid. The better you do, the more rewards you get. However, you won’t just be worrying about the machines coming to get you, but other raiders who will be more than happy to take your treasure “off your hands” to suit their own needs.
#13 Ashfall
When the end of the world comes, whether it be sudden or a post-apocalyptic nightmare of our own creation, things are going to go down that many won’t be comfortable with. In Ashfall, you’ll be one of many who are trying to change the world by finding the “Core of Creation.” However, you don’t know where it is, and thus, you’ll have to travel the zones either alone or with friends to recover it.
That would be hard enough with all the enemies that lie within this wasteland. However, there are also PVP zones where you’ll directly fight other players, which means you’ll want to have the best loadout possible to deal with them.
#12 Sniper Elite: Resistance
When it comes to snipers, they are meant to be one of the world when it comes to taking shots on targets. They are trained to factor in many different elements of the world so that when they pull that trigger, the target goes down.
In Sniper Elite: Resistance, you’ll be an elite sniper helping out the French resistance back in World War II. The group has gotten intel that the German forces are working on a special weapon that’ll forever tip the balance of power in their favor. Your goal is to work with the resistance and other players, if you so choose, to take out key figures and kill the project.
Have fun seeing who’s the best shot among you.
#11 Dragonkin: The Banished
If you really think about it, when you’re fighting dragons, the only real “competitiveness” is trying to stay alive so that the dragons don’t kill you. It’s a novel concept, but it’s one that really hits home when you think about it. In Dragonkin: The Banished, you and your co-op allies will be facing not just dragons but also various monsters that were created by the dragon’s very blood staining the land.
Your goal is simple: take out the Dragon Lords and free the lands that they have ruled with an iron fist. Er, iron claw. Only together can you succeed, so grow your power so no dragon can stand in your way!
#10 Splitgate 2
When you’re dealing with games like Splitgate 2, competitiveness is inherent in every aspect of the title. As the name suggests, the key gameplay mechanic is being able to create portals so that you can get the jump on your enemies and get serious points. Yes, points. This whole game is set within a competition that’ll start out as teams going against one another, and then it’ll shift to players trying to get individual glory.
As such, you’ll need to watch your back and ensure that someone isn’t trying to take all the points and glory for themselves. Work together…until you don’t need to anymore.
#9 Ark 2
Despite not seeing or hearing about this game in a while, we know that Ark 2 will have a grand adventure for players to enjoy, whether it be alone, in co-op, or facing off against each other for dominance. After all, the point of the first game was to start with nothing, build up your technology and skills, ride dinosaurs, and then see how much damage you could do to other players.
In the sequel, you’ll find yourself in a mysterious world with no clue of how you got there. Oh, and Vin Diesel is in this world, too. That should crank up the “family” element.
#8 Borderlands 4
Admittedly, there’s an incredible amount we don’t know about Borderlands 4, outside of a small teaser and Gearbox Software confirming that it’s both being made and that it’ll feature new villains unlike any we’ve seen before. That alone is exciting, but it doesn’t paint a full picture.
However, if we base the new game off the main trilogy and pre-sequels that came before it, you can get a picture of the co-op chaos that will soon arrive. After all, with millions upon billions of guns to wield in this universe, there will be some competitiveness to try and get the best gear so you can make your foes wish they never came against you.
Just remember, there ain’t no rest for the wicked.
#7 Dune: Awakening
After watching the two recent adaptations of the acclaimed book series, one might have the urge to go to the desert planet of Arakis and see for themselves whether they can make a name for themselves among the stars. In Dune: Awakening, you and numerous other players will have that option and ability, as you’ll be put upon the planet and given the freedom to do whatever you feel is best for you and others like you.
Will you attempt to create a great house and see if you can challenge the other great families? Will you work with the Fremen to try to free the world from other players? The choice is entirely yours.
#6 Capcom Fighting Collection 2
While we’ll admit that some of these games are more about the co-op nature of things versus the “fighting spirit” of certain titles, Capcom Fighting Collection 2 will absolutely bring out your competitiveness to the extreme.
The first collection, if you recall, brought out the Capcom collaborations with Marvel, and it was awesome, and much-beloved by the community. This new collection is all about the Capcom collaborations that came with SNK and the fun that can be had with their roster of characters.
These two had quite the rivalry once upon a time, so it’s nice to see that this collection is coming out for people to enjoy once more while button-mashing each other to death.
#5 Dragon Ball Project: Multi
While we still don’t have all the details about Dragon Ball Project: Multi, mainly because it was just in a beta earlier this year, we can say that this will be an insanely competitive title.
Why? First off, it’s a MOBA, which means that the game will have players going after one another inherently. Second, as the beta showed, each player, regardless of whether they work with their teammates or not, will have tasks that they’ll need to complete to help their team achieve victory.
Finally, because of the anime/manga it’s based around, there are plenty of clashes and fights that’ll occur between the massive roster of characters that’ll inevitably be put in. So, yeah, fights will be plentiful here.
#4 Sid Meier’s Civilization VII
The irony of putting Sid Meier’s Civilization VII on this list is that the game has a natural competitiveness even when you’re not competing against other players. After all, the goal of the game is to create a massive nation all your own and craft it in the styling and image you desire. So, whether that be a democracy, monarchy, dictatorship or something in between, your work will be cut out for you.
Then, when you throw in the challenge of competing against another player, you’ll find that things are even more challenging! So, go forth and craft your civilization, and see if it can truly be a shining beacon for others. Or, the doom that brings everything under your boot.
#3 Gears of War: E-Day
Many people are excited about Gears of War: E-Day for a very basic reason: the game promises to tell the full story of what happened when the Locust horde showed up and basically destroyed the Earth. This is the prequel storyline that features Dom and Marcus before the original trilogy, and thus, there are many elements to be explored in full.
However, once you get through the story campaign, you’ll do what most other people do and dive into the multiplayer that’ll inevitably be there. With your Lancer in hand, you’ll shoot and tear up friends and foes alike to ensure that you have dominance over the other side.
#2 Monster Hunter Wilds
At first, Monster Hunter Wilds might not seem like a “competitive game” versus just your standard co-op fair. However, when you’re fighting giant monsters with your friends and guild mates, there’s a bit of pride that kicks in during the heat of battle. Do you want someone else to take your glory by saying that they got the killing blow on the beast you’ve been wailing away on for a while? We didn’t think so.
As such, you’ll likely work doubly hard to get the best weapons and armor possible so that you can carve up enemy monsters and boast to your friends to “git gud,” because you’re already at that level.
#1 Grand Theft Auto VI Online
Admittedly, we don’t know too much about the presumed Grand Theft Auto VI Online content that’ll happen when the game releases in 2025. However, based on the last game, we can make a couple of guesses. For example, you’ll likely be able to jump into other player’s worlds and help them complete missions.
Perhaps we’ll get an all-new area of the game’s world, the ability to create your own criminal empire either alone or with friends and allies online. Of course, that also means you’ll possibly be fighting other online players for territory and turf.
