Capcom’s Software Sales In 2024 Are Dominated By PC Gamers

October 30, 2024 by Todd Black

The PC Master Race Loves Capcom!

There are a ton of “narratives” going on in the gaming industry that many are attempting to make stick. For example, you might have heard about “layoffs” happening at Nintendo, which is odd because the company is easily the most successful company right now in the gaming space. Sure enough, it wasn’t true and was debunked by The Big N itself. Then, there is the notion that “PC gaming is dying,” as many companies aren’t “putting in the effort” to make great PC ports or titles. To that topic, Capcom would like to have a word with you, as its player base is currently filled with PC gamers.

This reveal comes via an earnings report that was dropped today, and it showcases some interesting figures. Easily the biggest is that in 2024, Capcom has sold over 20 million software units, with over half of that coming from PC users. That might be surprising to you in various ways, including that the publishers 2024 has been littered with various remasters and collectors editions versus new releases. However, the numbers don’t lie. They also show that digital sales are on the rise within its ranks.

With this being the case, though, you can easily predict that its next big title, which we all know will be a huge hit, Monster Hunter Wilds, will likely have a large number of people buying on PC/Steam versus consoles. In fact, the combined PC user purchases actually eclipse the entirety of console sales combined! That’s not something you hear that often from a big publisher.

So what is going on here? Why are PC users getting these games in bulk on computer versus console? It’s hard to say, really. On the one hand, you could just argue that of the games that were offered by the company in 2024, they went the route of PC versus the consoles they had. Simple as that. You could also say that they felt that the gamers offered were best played on PC, which would make sense in certain cases, as there were multiple detective-style games released this year, as well as a collection of fighting titles from past eras.

Plus, some of the titles weren’t initially offered on consoles, though that has been changed. Finally, you could just say that gamers are weird, and you often never know what they’ll pick until they do. Regardless, you can bet that Capcom will work hard to make future titles great for PC so that it can continue to rake in sales.
