Black Ops 2 revealed, blogs that refuse to remove references Blacklisted

February 18, 2012 by Mat Growcott

As if we didn’t know it, Activision practically confirms Black Ops 2 by blacklisting the site that found evidence for the game.

The next Call of Duty is looking likely to be Black Ops 2, we've known that since at least December last year (probably even earlier). It's been called Black Ops 2 in news posts and in features for even longer, as a kind of code name used by enthusiasts. So with the game suddenly up for pre-order on Amazon France under the name Black Ops 2, you'd think that Activision would take it in their stride as just another example of supposition about their next game.

Although the listing was quickly taken off Amazon France, Activision wanted to destroy reference to the game entirely and demanded that news pieces be taken down as soon as possible. Gameblog were one of the sites that refused and, as a result, have found themselves blacklisted. Because they took the screenshot above – the sort of thing that happens on a weekly basis – the company have completely shut out anybody who reported on this and didn't take it back. That's review copies, advertising campaigns and press invitations, all gone in the hope of keeping a screenshot of Amazon France as secret as possible.

Whatever reason they have behind this heavy handed approach, I think it's fair to say that this little snippet of news is out there, and it wouldn't be all that interesting if not for Activision's attempts to cover it up.
