Epic Mickey Rebrushed Gets Demo

August 28, 2024 by Todd Black

A classic adventure with a fresh coat of paint.

There are often cries in the video game community, not to mention the TV and film industry, that not enough people “take swings” to make something unique and special. Originality is a big part of our world, yet it seems like we’ve fallen into a rhythm of “wash, rinse, and repeat” just to make games. However, there was a period of time when creativity of the highest order was welcomed, and that included in 2010, when one Warren Spector decided to make a “darker game” featuring Mickey Mouse. Fast forward to now, and Epic Mickey Rebrushed is hoping to shine a more positive light on the innovative title.

While the original game for the Nintendo Wii got a cult following, it didn’t reach the heights that many felt it could. However, with Epic Mickey Rebrushed, the team behind the “new paint job” has improved both the gameplay and the visuals to ensure that the cult classic is as refined as possible, giving people a new reason to check it out and see what fun can be had within. However, if that’s still not enough for you to give it a shot, then you’ll want to take a look at the video below.

This video notes how a demo is now available for all platforms on which the game can be played. That way, you can take the game for a test drive and see if it’s worthy of your time:

If you wish for a more official synopsis of the game, you can find it below:

“Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed brings the magic of Disney to life in a vibrant 3D platformer. This beautiful remake sends Mickey Mouse on an epic journey through Wasteland, a realm of forgotten Disney characters. As Mickey, you will dive into a fantastical world and, armed with paint and thinner, shape your adventure and the fate of this alternate world.”

Warren Spector developed the game to be kind of a throwback to the earliest days of Disney and his properties.. That’s why Mickey Mouse has a more “classic” look, versus the “House of Mouse” icon that he eventually became. We also see him when he had more of a rambunctious personality versus the “kind and sweet” figure that he was melded into. We even see other classic Disney characters that have been lost to time, like Oswald the Rabbit.

While we can’t say for certain that this game’s remaster will do well, it’s nice to see the game getting a second shot at life after all these years.
