Release Date for Until Dawn PC and PS5 Remake Announced

August 14, 2024 by Carley Garcia

We’re ready to be extra-scared in 4K.

During May’s PlayStation State of Play stream, Sony revealed a trailer for the highly-anticipated remaster of Until Dawn first teased back in January 2024. Fans have been concerned, as news has been scarce since then, but Sony and Ballistic Moon have finally revealed that the “rebuilt and enhanced” version of the game will be released for PlayStation 5 and PC on October 4, 2024.

“Rebuilt and enhanced for PS5 consoles and PC, Until Dawn invites you to relive the nightmare, and immerse yourself in a gripping slasher horror where every decision can make the difference between life and death,” the game’s official description reads.

Earlier this month, a new age rating for the game was listed by the ESRB, implying that an announcement was incoming.

“We’ve created a new optional alternative for the Don’t Move mechanic called Stay Calm,” the developers announced in a PlayStation Blog post. “Stay Calm is for third-party peripherals that do not feature a gyroscope or for players who prefer a different challenge.”

The updated game will also feature new collectibles, a reworked prologue, and overhauled visuals rebuilt in Unreal Engine 5.

First released in 2015, the interactive horror game tasks players with controlling eight young adults who must survive the night on Blackwood Mountain. Curiously, the title features a butterfly effect system, in which any choices the player makes can alter the story in minor or major ways.

The game was nominated for various awards upon release, including Best Narrative at The Game Awards 2015 and PlayStation Game of the Year at the Golden Joystick Awards. It won Best Original Property at the British Academy Games Awards 2016.
