Concord PlayStation 5 Analytics And Insider Rumors Indicate “It’s Rough Out There”

July 25, 2024 by Ryan Parreno

We’re sure Sony is looking for a fix for this little conundrum right at this very moment.

There’s even more indicators coming out that Concord’s reputation is not doing well going into launch. We are looking here at two reports with data points and one rumor about insiders.

When we had reported that Concord had low player numbers on SteamDB, we noted that there was no data for PlayStation players. TrueTrophies reports on the results of their own data analysis of PlayStation 5 players. They managed to do this with data and assistance from analytics firm GameInsights.

TrueTrophies looked a 3.1 million active PlayStation accounts during the Early Access and Open Beta periods. Note that they did not say there were 3.1 million Concord players on PlayStation 5, but this was the pool they got their data from.

They did not give numbers, not even estimates, for how many players were on PlayStation 5. But TrueTrophies found that Concord actually lost players on PlayStation in between Early Access and Open beta. Apparently, the last minute announcement that Early Access would be open to PlayStation Plus subscribers drew them in. To Firewalk’s credit, they retained most of their players on the platform, but of course, even that slight drop of 8 % of players is not a good sign.

We had also reported on how the game is low on Steam wishlists. To be specific, Concord ranks at # 793 on the Steam Wishlist leaderboard, with 4.129 Steam users wishlisting the game. We decided to check the wishlist again for a point of comparison, and confirmed that Marvel Rivals is ranked # 14 on the wishlist, with 69,293 Steam users adding it to their wishlists.

But perhaps the last data we have is the most unencouraging. Kinda Funny Games Daily talked about the latest Concord news that Firewalk would not be adding battle passes to the game. Co-host Blessing Adeoye Jr. shared an interesting tidbit on the show in their discussion. He said:

“I have had conversations with friends who work at PlayStation, and it’s rough out here. We’re looking at the pre-orders and things like that. It is not looking good right now for Concord.”

Once again, we want to reiterate that sentiment among people who actually played Concord has been mostly positive. It’s clear now that the trailer, and how Sony decided to market the game in general, has backfired, and given potential players a bad impression.

Concord’s success or failure is by no means guaranteed. But, if Sony is really paying attention to all of this low interest and negative sentiment like Blessing claims, they need to find a way to fix that issue right now.

Maybe the least they can do is open up the game to free play to everyone on Steam and PlayStation 5 in the final weeks leading to launch, through the week aside from the weekend.  But it’s all up to Sony as to why they planned limited betas in the first place. We do hope Concord finds a pathway to success somehow.
