Vita Load Times can be worryingly Slow

February 11, 2012 by Mat Growcott

Some games can take over a minute to load on the Vita, a long time for a portable console

Thesixthaxis has run a small test on loading times for the Vita and found that you could be waiting a little while for a game to start, although Sony have said a firmware update is on its way to reduce the time needed to get into a game. WipEout 2048, a game that many will be getting free on the 3G version of the console, takes almost two minutes total to get into a game and a little over a minute before you get onto the start menu.

Everybody's Golf weighs in as the quickest game to load, taking less than a minute to get into a game. Uncharted, at the higher end of the mid-speed games, took over a minute total to get into a game, but only forty seconds to get to the start menu. Apparently loading times between levels are either non-existent or tiny, just like the console counterparts.

The writer of the article admits that this is by no means a scientific test – he tried out each game only once and timed only approximately – but it gives some idea of how far you'll get in your bus journey before you see even the beginning of a level.
