Admittedly, Nintendo hasn’t been making “huge waves” in 2024 regarding gaming news. If anything, the biggest pieces of “news” haven’t been about concrete things but rumors regarding their next system or the games that could come out for it. We’ve heard about when it might come out and that it may not be released until 2025 or that third-party teams like Atlus are getting ready to port their big new titles to the system when it arrives. Then, when you think about the silence from dev teams like Monolith Soft, you wonder what they’re working on. After all, they have to be working on something.
For those who don’t know, Monolith Soft is the team behind the incredible Xenoblade Chronicles titles. The main trilogy is fully on the Nintendo Switch currently, and the 2nd and 3rd entries made big splashes on the Switch, with the latest one even getting Game of the Year nominations. Plus, with the sales numbers they pulled, it was inevitable that Nintendo would get Monolith to make something else. The question is, what are they going to make next?
While we don’t have the answer to that, we know they’re on the hunt for new blood in their company to make it. Specifically, they’re on the lookout for some programmers so that they can work on their next AAA title:
Curiously, they also did a kind of “recruiting drive interview” for the programming side of things not too long ago. As insider Stealth noted, they didn’t specifically state which side of their programming team needed help. The 1st Production Team, as they are known, is the one that works on their RPG line. Then, there’s the 2nd Production Team, which has been known to help Nintendo with other projects of theirs. They helped with Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, Super Smash Bros Ultimate, and more! They are the “Swiss Army Knife” of programmers, apparently.
If we assume that it’s for the 1st Production Team and this is for their next title, then all signs point to this being an early entry on Nintendo’s next platform. That would make sense, given that the team’s last title came out in 2022, and thus, they would have had some time to work on it for the next system. Plus, the team has promised that there are answers to the questions that Xenoblade Chronicles gamers still have regarding the story.
Sadly, we’ll just have to wait for answers to come.
