After Two Decades John Romero Releases Another New Doom Level

April 26, 2016 by Dennis Patrick

John Romero unleashes new Doom level two decades after the game released.

John Romero may be best known for this creation of Doom, but he has since announced his brand new first-person shooter known as Blackroom. That doesn’t mean the developer doesn’t look back at one of his most popular video game titles. Today another new map has released for the two decade old video game Doom.

John Romero released a new map for Doom earlier this year which would mark his first time going back to the video game after two decades. Now he’s back at it again with a brand new map, one that he calls a warm-up for his new first-person shooter.

Time for a surprise! This is the kind of classic FPS gameplay I’m promising. [[ E1M4b ]] https://t.co/JmlrJmL9Sd pic.twitter.com/UpObtLIfNP

For those interested in trying John Romero’s latest available creation, here is the map description:

“With the Toxin Refinery in the rearview, you make your way to Phobos Mission Control where the computers crunching the data from the Phobos Anomaly are located. You need to use them to gain access to the Phobos Lab, but remember hearing that the computers were tied into all areas of the installation and that you never knew when the environment around you would change. You need to keep your eyes alert to all movement–this place is not what it seems…”

The map is available completely for free and can be downloaded through this Dropbox link. Furthermore, you’ll need to drag the .wad file onto the .exe file of Doom. From there you must warp to the level by typing out “IDCLEV14” while in the game.

With the sudden interest in going back to his roots with Doom and promising a more classic first-person shooter experience with his upcoming release of Blackroom, we can’t wait to try the game out.
