Fans Debate Whether A Nintendo Direct Will Arrive Next Month

August 16, 2023 by Todd Black

Will they or won’t the

With the end of the year somehow now in sight, not many are happy about it; people are starting to wonder what will happen in the year’s final four months. For gaming fans, they know about many big releases in the last four months from all three major parties. For Nintendo fans they’re used to certain things happening in September. Specifically, they’re used to a Nintendo Direct coming out and further highlighting what will come out the rest of the year while teasing what is coming out next year. But some fans aren’t so sure that’s what will happen this year.

The logic behind their fears is simple. Due to the Nintendo Switch basically being on its “last legs” and numerous rumors coming out about the follow-up system, many expect that Nintendo might skip this Direct so they can be ready for what happens with the next system next year.

However, insider Stealth wisely points out on Twitter that there is a true history of Nintendo Directs happening in September. So as he states, until there isn’t one, you can likely expect there to be one:

I see people still arguing that there won't be a Nintendo Direct in September.

Until proven otherwise, yes there will be.

Previous Nintendo Direct Dates:
9/1/2016
9/13/2017
9/13/2018
9/4/2019
9/17/2020 (Partner showcase)

You can’t deny the numbers, and while that “Partner’s Showcase” wasn’t the most beloved Direct to happen in September, it happened in September.

Another way to look at this is that in the last Direct, we got several games reveals that haven’t been followed up upon since. We’re talking about titles like Super Mario Bros Wonder, Super Mario RPG Remake, the Princess Peach title, and more.

So Nintendo may drop new trailers for some of their biggest games that have yet to come out this year to help ensure they sell well from day one.

Plus, if the rumors are true, the next Nintendo console won’t arrive until the latter parts of 2024. That means we may have a full year before the system arrives.

That leaves Nintendo with many months to fill up the “last year” of the Switch and ensure it goes out on a high note before the next console arrives.

The Switch has been one of the best things to ever happen to Nintendo, and they are still selling millions of units, as the most recent financial reports proved. So why would Nintendo stop trying to sell systems when they have a winner? Exactly.

Only Nintendo knows the answer to whether a Direct is coming next month. But at the very least, you can have hope on the matter.
