UPDATE
And here’s the trailer for the content! Enjoy!
ORIGINAL STORY
Crossovers in video games are nothing new, and at this point, they’re basically expected for certain games and genres. But most importantly, if a show, movie, comic series, or something else outside the gaming space feels that they can collaborate to bring attention to their property, they’ll do it. One such example is coming soon, as the movie Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Mutant Mayhem arrives on August 2nd. Why is that important for gamers? Because the skateboarding video game Session Skate Sim will have a crossover with them via a free update that’s coming soon.
According to ComicBook.com, the Session Skate Sim crossover will feature the four members of the TMNT becoming playable characters in the game. Plus, the collaboration will launch on August 1st, a day before the movie.
Unsurprisingly, the dev team would be up for this. First, it promotes their skateboarding title. Second, the TMNT is a name brand that everyone recognizes. Finally, the turtles love to skateboard! So it’s a perfect fit.
If you’ve never played the skateboarding title before, it’s much different than the titles with Tony Hawk or other attempts to “match the magic” of the skateboarding world. Key among these differences is how you control the character and the board. Each control stick is routed to a different leg. So you have to use your feet perfectly on the board to get your desired tricks.
Another thing that helps it stand out is the way it embraces the old-school culture of the skateboarding masses. You’ll get to go to classic locations within New York City, which is where the TMNT lives, and shred it up in style. Then, you can make your own special VHS tapes highlighting everything you’ve done!
So being able to rip it up as Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael, and Michelangelo will be a dream come true for many.
As for the movie, this take on the turtles will feature them as a bit younger than you’re used to. We’re talking really young teens here. They want to be accepted in the world and take risks to see what’s out there. But when they learn about other mutants who have bad plans for the city, they must strike out to defeat them and earn their place in New York.
Many are curious to see if this new version of the TMNT will resonate with audiences. Paramount already has approved a sequel and a spinoff, but only time will tell if that holds.
