Microsoft Is Making Pizza Scented Controllers (For TMNT)

July 24, 2023 by Ryan Parreno

No slowly melting low grade plastic required.

Microsoft has revealed another weird, but pretty fun, crossover movie promotion. They’ve crossed over from Barbie to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, but in even weirder ways than previously thought possible.

On their latest Xbox Wire, the company has revealed they are making new pizza scented Xbox Wireless Controllers, just in time for the debut of their next movie, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem.

It’s really strange to contemplate even just looking at them. The controllers have a plastic pizza glued to them at the back. Actually, the plastic pizzas are the actual scent diffusers for that pizza smell.

The controllers themselves have a green slime motif, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem¸ and the name and torso of one of each Ninja Turtle decorating the face to the controller.

As best as we can tell, the plastic pizzas are removable, but admittedly they make for a great conversation piece and do have their own novelty for when you’re playing with someone else in the room.

Just like their Xbox Barbie merchandise, these pizza smelling controllers are not available for sale. Instead, as part of the movie promotion, you have to join a raffle. This time it may not be available worldwide, though obviously New Yorkers are going to get to join in.

To get in on this raffle, you will have to follow Xbox Game Pass on Twitter, and retweeting the official tweet about this promo, when they send it.

If you happen to live in New York, you can get a firsthand look and smell of these controllers too. The Xbox Gaming Lounge in the Microsoft Experience Center in Fifth Avenue will have these pizza-scented controllers on hand, alongside some real pizza, for fans on August 2, 2023, from 4 to 7 PM ET.

Microsoft’s Xbox Game Controller division seems to be enjoying themselves with all these promotion related special edition controllers. For what it’s worth, Xbox Design Lab is open to the public once again, so if you think you have better TMNT related Xbox controller designs, or you want to make something else entirely, Xbox’s controller team is always ready to grant your every desire.

It also seems like Microsoft also has plans for even more movie themed controllers in the future. We may be looking at some future controllers for movies like the next Ghostbusters, Five Nights at Freddy’s, maybe a few films that aren’t as toyetic. Would you be up for some Saw X or Napoleon Xbox controllers?
