Oculus VR’s Palmer Luckey has shared a small update on the status of delivering the first batch out of Oculus Rifts.
Shipping update: Kickstarter Rifts will start arriving Mon, pre-orders start shipping mid-week (likely Wed) and will arrive this week too.

Stay tuned for future updates, I will give them as soon as possible – this particular update was set in stone just hours ago!

This is a follow up to tweets made days ago indicating that Oculus Rift units just started shipping out. Some of the Kickstarter backers may receive their units as early as today. The device’s Kickstarter backers were definitely priority, considering they waited four years since the original crowdfund. The terms surrounding the device’s release had dramatically changed, with Oculus VR being acquired by Facebook.
As for pre-order customers, their units will start shipping out in the middle of the week. Palmer projects these units will start shipping out Wednesday, and it is wholly dependent on how soon they can send units out to the 9,522 backers. Pre-order customers should receive their units this week as well.
Heads up for everyone, Oculus Home goes live tomorrow morning!

People with their Rift in-hand will be able to play right away, others can get ready on the software side.

Luckey also has advice for customers who already have a Rift in their hands. Oculus Home should go live tomorrow. If you are still waiting to receive your unit, you can prepare the software on your PC beforehand.
Existing content you have already downloaded from Oculus Share or anywhere else won't work on Rift until the developer integrates SDK 1.3+

Finally, Luckey explains that developers need to integrate SDK 1.3+ for Oculus Rift games you received via Oculus Share, or acquired from other places, such as other storefronts or even directly from the developers.
