Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon Can Be Enjoyed By Newcomers To The Series

February 3, 2023 by Dennis Patrick

There’s no connection with this installment in terms of story.

For Armored Core fans, there was a real surprise during The Game Awards 2022. The event announced the surprise that the game franchise was being picked back up. After their immense success with Elden Ring, FromSoftware began the development of Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon. So far, we only have one trailer for the game, which came from the announcement of the title during The Game Awards 2022 stream. Unfortunately, if you were hopeful that the recent Taipei Game Show 2023 broadcast would showcase new gameplay, you’re out of luck.

It was previously reported that Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon would only get a brief presentation with producer Yasutaka Ogura. There wasn’t much unveiled either that wasn’t already covered previously. For instance, the producer noted that there was always an urge to get back into the franchise. Likewise, this installment allowed more resources to be put toward the development. So past fans of the franchise might be pleased to see a more significant experience than previous games.

However, with that said, it’s noted that there is no real need to go back and play the past games. When asked if there were any connections attached to this new installment, the producer confirmed this was a standalone experience. That means this is a game that newcomers will be able to jump into without having to consult the internet for background narratives of previous games. That might be a relief, but this could potentially be an overwhelming game at first.

A big component of this series, and especially this latest installment, is customization. Players are encouraged to swap out parts of their mechs to prepare them for battles. It looks like this upcoming installment might be even more robust than past games. But again, we’re waiting on more gameplay footage to showcase some of the mech customizations in action.

At the moment, FromSoftware is looking to release Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon this year. When the game does launch into the marketplace, you can expect this title for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S platforms. In the meantime, you can catch the full interview with producer Yautaka Ogura in the video embedded below.
