Dead Space Remake: How to Get Security Clearance Level 2

January 30, 2023 by Peter Hunt Szpytek

Locked up tight!

In a lot of ways, the Dead Space remake is a very faithful recreation of the original 2008 survival-horror classic, but while EA Motive used many of the ideas found in the original game, the remake isn’t a one-to-one recreation of it. The original Dead Space was a mostly linear experience that sectioned off all of the different areas of the USG Ishimura in discrete levels while the remake gives players the ability to revisit areas they’ve already completed.

In fact, backtracking is entirely encouraged in the Dead Space remake thanks to the new security clearance levels that lock off certain areas and containers if you don’t have the proper clearance for them. If you’ve been playing the game for a few hours and already have the first security clearance level, you may be wondering where to find the second one. Here’s everything you need to know about getting security clearance level 2 in the Dead Space remake.

Security Clearance Level 2 Location

Getting security clearance level 2 is actually quite simple as it’s impossible to miss if you’re playing through Dead Space’s story. At the start of Chapter 4, Isaac will get off the tram as he heads to the bridge and he’ll get a call from Hammond and Daniels where the two argue about what’s going on and Daniels begins to doubt Hammond’s intentions. The fight ends with Isaac pointing out that if they don’t fix more of the ship, they’ll all be dead so they should just focus on working together for the time being.

After the call ends, head down the main path toward the captain’s nest. You’ll eventually get to the main atrium and you’ll see a quick cutscene where more of the Ishimura begins to break down. Loot the area for supplies and then continue following your quest tracker to the far side of the room to the elevator that takes you to the captain’s nest and escape pods.

Once you make it to the bottom of the elevator, go through the door in front of you and you’ll see a cutscene where Hammond will talk about your next steps and then upgrade your security clearance to level 2. Once you leave the area, you’ll be able to open any security level 1 or 2 doors/containers.
