Like A Dragon: Ishin Drops New Story Trailer

January 30, 2023 by Alexandra Nicholson

Check out the Blade of Vengeance.

The excitement around the upcoming Like A Dragon spinoff adventure Like A Dragon: Ishin continues to build. Ahead of the action RPG’s launch on February 21, publisher SEGA and developer Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio have dropped another new teaser trailer. This time, the action is firmly fixed on the game’s story and gives players a bit more of an insight into the catalyst for Sakamoto Ryoma’s adventures.

The new clip, entitled “Blade of Vengeance,” showcases protagonist Ryoma’s search for justice and accountability after being framed for the assassination of his teacher and mentor. It’s a premise that’s fairly familiar territory for longstanding fans of the Yakuza/Like A Dragon series, but the trailer serves as a solid introduction for those who may be new to the franchise. The story itself promises to be full of challenges as it is suggested that Ryoma will struggle “to distinguish friend from foe” during the course of his hunt for retribution. It certainly sounds as though this Like A Dragon title will have plenty of twists and turns for those who are jumping into the world of 1860s-era Tokyo with no prior knowledge of the franchise. You can check out the new Blade of Vengeance trailer below for a detailed overview of the Like A Dragon: Ishin narrative.

Like A Dragon: Ishin is currently pulling in some pretty impressive levels of critical praise in its early previews. With the game taking the tried and tested formula of its Yakuza/Like A Dragon counterparts back in time to the samurai-era of early Tokyo, the action is packed full of high-intensity brutality and the side content also brings about the signature humour and silliness that the franchise is so well loved for. Take, for example, one of the title’s available mini-games, chicken racing, which seems to be a particular hit with the game’s early reviewers.

The game itself was first released in Japan over a decade back, with this reimagining for Western audiences coming as a welcome treat alongside the additional new Like A Dragon titles that have previously been announced by SEGA and Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio. Like A Dragon: Ishin releases next month and will be available on Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 and PC via Steam and the Microsoft Store. Those who pre-order the game now ahead of its release will be able to get their hands on some extra items, including three bonus weapons and four days of Early Access to the game on February 17th.
