Destiny 2 servers have been down for nearly a day as Bungie attempts to fix major issues with the game’s progression tracking.
Destiny 2‘s servers have been down for more than half a day and Bungie is currently tackling a major issue with regard to progress tracking. The team behind Destiny 2 took the servers offline at 11 AM PT/2 PM ET/7 PM GMT on Tuesday, January 24th, 2023 to “investigate an ongoing issue causing certain Triumphs, Seals, and Catalysts to lose progress for players”.
Bungie noted that the servers would return to normal at around 3-4 AM PT/ 6-7 AM ET/ 11 AM- 12 PM GMT but that this may be subject to change. They said they were “testing a fix” in a tweet published on Tuesday evening and noted that “Once testing is complete, we will deploy and verify the fix before bringing Destiny 2 back online. We will also be rolling back all player accounts to their state as of 8.20 AM PST, prior to Hotfix 6.3.0.5 going live.”
The most recent news from Bungie was announced in a tweet on the Destiny Twitter at 7.30 PM PT /10.30 PM ET /3.30 AM GMT and said: “Our investigation and testing continues. To set expectations, this issue will not be resolved tonight. We are estimating a timeline of 3-4 AM PST tomorrow, January 25, for our fix to get deployed. Timeline subject to change. More info will be provided once available.”
The reason for the servers shutdown was due to some players missing Triumphs, Seals, and Catalysts. In order for this to be rectified Bugie was forced to take down the servers to “investigate potential leads” surrounding the problem. This server shutdown comes after Bungie announced a number of adjustments to Citan’s Ramparts’ cooldown and barricade damage in their update 6.3.0.5.
While this certainly isn’t the best news to come about the issue should hopefully be resolved soon and players can then dive back into whatever Destiny 2 has to offer. Fans will be hoping a large proportion of these issues can be fixed and not repeated come the next DLC expansion for Destiny 2‘s release, Destiny 2: Lightfall, on February 28th, 2023. This issue comes after Bungie received a load of praise for their treatment of Google Stadia players when the service eventually shut down. In response to the shutdown, Bungie sent Destiny 2 Google Stadia players a free month of Nvidia’s rival streaming service GeForce Now.
