Nintendo Switch Fans Anticipate 2023 Lineup

January 2, 2023 by Todd Black

What will fill in the remaining months?

After the failure of the Wii U, many felt that Nintendo was “finally at the end of its life.” Many suspected that if/when its next console failed, it would go the route of SEGA and become “a software company.” But The Big N didn’t go down. Instead, it picked itself up and created the Nintendo Switch, and ever since its release in 2017; it’s been one of the biggest consoles ever. So much so that recent rumors say it’s nearing 120 million units sold in its lifetime. Just as important, its software lineup has been incredible nearly every year.

2022 was a standout year for the Nintendo Switch in many ways, and 2023 looks promising based on the first five months. But Switch fans are hoping for even more within the rest of the year. First, focusing on the start of this new year, we have Fire Emblem Engage, which is less than three weeks away. The title has been building hype for months via trailers and character breakdowns.

In February, we have a Kirby port title, which is a bit low-key, but given the success of the pink puffball’s last title, it’ll likely sell a million copies. Also in February is the arrival of Octopath Traveler II. While it’s not exclusive to the Switch this time, it’s still a title many JRPG fans want to enjoy.

March holds the sole exclusive for Switch so far in the 3rd party realm via Bayonetta Origins. The title will play much differently than previous games starring the Umbra Witch, and PlatinumGames seems very excited about it.

Finally, in May, we have the long-anticipated arrival of Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom. Fans were relieved when its name was revealed along with the release date announcement. But now, they want as much new information about the game as possible, and hopefully, that’ll come soon.

We need more of the year filled in!

Jan- Fire Emblem Engage
February- Kirby's Return to Dreamland Deluxe
March- Bayonetta Origins
April- TBD
May- Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
June- TBD
July- TBD
August- TBD
September- TBD
October- TBD
November- TBD
December- TBD

But as the tweet above notes, while we know about those titles, the rest of the year is pretty blank for the Switch. What other titles could we expect? One that we know is coming is Pikmin 4, which was confirmed last year by Shigeru Miyamoto himself.

Another title we likely can expect is one starring Mario. It’s been over five years since his last major platforming title, so it feels like a good time for a sequel or new entry. Some fans hope Metroid Prime 4 will release this year, but that may be a long shot.

Regardless, we’ll have to trust in Nintendo.
