Like every Blizzard game, Diablo III is littered with secrets and tiny little details most players will take a long time to discover. One of the game’s most well-known secrets (at least if you’re an active member of the community) is its inclusion of the Cow Level, which is itself a variation of the famous Secret Cow Level from Diablo II.
The Cow Level was added to the game since Patch 2.4.0, and is only available in the month of March, when the Kanai event takes place. March is the real world birth month of a Blizzard artist named Kevin Kanai Griffith, for whom the Kanai’s Cube is named. He passed away in October 2014 from a rare form of cancer. Blizzard gave tribute to the artist by naming the special transmutation item and its creator King Kanai after him.
The studio wrote a short, heartfelt biography about the artist’s contributions to Diablo and to Blizzard as a whole.
Diablo‘s community manager Nevalistis says that this month, players will have a chance to adventure with Kanai once again.
To unlock the special level, players simply have to head over to the Immortal Throne in the Ruins of Sescheron (Act III). The dungeon has a randomly generated layout, but players will always find the throne room towards the west/northwest quadrant of the map. Kanai’s soul will awaken and summon a portal to the level.
The process can be seen in a video by MadTom, below:
If you’ve yet to check it out, you can do so before the end of March.
