Ubisoft Pushes Back On Claims The Division Will Have Microtransactions

February 27, 2016 by Ryan Parreno

Ubisoft has clearly rejected claims that Tom Clancy’s The Division DLC will include microtransactions.

Ubisoft has clearly rejected claims that Tom Clancy’s The Division DLC will include microtransactions.

In this conversation with a fan, community manager Natchai Stappers was not ready to discuss the element in the game referred to as Phoenix Credits. However, he did state that flatly that Tom Clancy’s The Division will not have microtransactions, and it will definitely not be pay to win.

Ubisoft The Division Natchai Microtransactions

This is a clearer statement than what Ubisoft gave earlier last month, when creative director Magnus Jansen stated that Ubisoft wanted to get away from the word microtransactions.

Gamers had previously voiced their displeasure when they saw H1Z1 and Payday 2 incorporating microtransactions and clear pay-to-win elements. Part of the concern is that these games were paid for full price on retail, and then get additional payments added on top of that. However, there are games that have kept fans happy after adding these elements. This is the case with Grand Theft Auto 5, who seems to have successfully convinced fans that they are trying to give them a better experience.

Winding down to two weeks before release, Ubisoft has yet to share details on Phoenix Credits, but Natchai’s statement implies it will merely be an in-game currency that cannot be bought with in-game cash. The sooner Ubisoft does share these details, the sooner any misunderstandings will be cleared up.

Tom Clancy’s The Division will be released on March 8, 2016, on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. It recently had the biggest beta for a new IP on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
