The Game Awards has been a consistent event that celebrates the achievements of the video game industry while also teasing the future of what’s to come thanks to exciting new game trailers. The awards themselves cover a broad range of categories. The award show, hosted by prominent industry presenter Geoff Keighley, is celebrating the achievements of games in 31 categories this year. Keighley has now revealed the nominees for each category via a livestream on The Game Awards YouTube channel, and we can dive into them below.
Five categories cover various aspects of esports, including the best esports game, best esports athlete, and best esports event. Categories like Most Anticipated Game look forward to the exciting games on the horizon, while the new Best Adaptation category celebrates some of the most well-received video game adaptations to TV series or movies. Of course, it wouldn’t be The Game Awards without the coveted Game of the Year award itself, and this year will be a heated battle between various games that were met with a positive reception. If you’re wondering about how the process behind the nominations works, The Game Awards website provides some answers. Games are chosen by an “international jury of over 100 global media and influencer outlets, selected for their history of critical video game evaluation.”
Keighley himself is not involved in any of the voting process. The winner of each category is decided by a mix of The Game Awards jury (90%) and votes from the public (10%). Finally, eligible games for the 2022 awards show must have been released by November 18 at 9 PM PT.
The Game Awards will be available to watch as a livestream on December 8 at 7:30 PM ET. You can vote in each category by visiting the official website. Otherwise, make sure to tune and and watch the official stream of The Game Awards live to see just what video game and development team managed to secure the win from each of the different categories being presented this year.
