NieR: Automata Switch Port Gets Launch Trailer

October 6, 2022 by Todd Black

Port of the year?

October is a major gaming month this year, and for the Nintendo Switch, it’s the month of 3rd party arrivals. In this case, the Nintendo Switch is dropping four major 3rd party games this month. Each of them is different and each comes from a different dev team. In short, gamers will be broke by the time October ends should they grab all of these highly-anticipated titles. To start this month of 3rd party epicness, though, NieR: Automata is here. The beloved RPG/action title from PlatinumGames, who are also behind the upcoming Bayonetta 3, has just launched for the Nintendo Switch, and fans are excited.

Nintendo is also excited about the game, as they’ve just released a flashy launch trailer for the title, with quotes from various outlets praising the Switch port as one of the best ever made. Considering the usual subpar standard the Switch ports get, this is likely to try and entice people to get NieR: Automata on Switch instead of being wary of it. Watch the trailer below to see how it stacks up in your eyes.

Based on early reports noted in the trailer, the Switch port really does hold up. While they said it wasn’t perfect by any means, it is a huge step up for Switch offerings of significant titles. The previews noted that the game looks crisp, plays at a good framerate, and at times was even better than the PS4 despite being on an “inferior console” graphically.

That is good news because people want to enjoy this game on the go with their Nintendo Switch. Thus, having a good port of the game was essential. Hopefully, fans will appreciate the work that went into such a port.

If you’ve never played NieR: Automata, the game is set in a world where humanity is nearly extinct. Robots have pushed humanity out and taken over. To fight back, the remaining humans made androids that they sent to Earth to take on the robot menace. You play as 2B, 9S, and others in a fight for survival and truth. True to PlatinumGames standards, nothing is quite what it seems in the game. Due to this, the title has multiple endings that you can get depending on the path and actions you choose. That means you could play this game for a long time as you try to work your way to them all.

The game saved PlatinumGames as a studio and continues to show its popularity through things like the Switch port and the upcoming anime! The game sets a high bar for this 3rd party month on Switch. We’ll have to wait and see what happens with other games and whether they can impress in the same way.
