Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot Release Date For Current Gen Revealed

October 5, 2022 by John McDonald

Entering the New Year the right way!

Bandai Namco has revealed the news that every fan of Dragon Ball Z, who also has a current-gen console and some time on their hands, has been waiting for. Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot now has a confirmed release for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S with the actual date being confirmed as January 13, 2023.

This has been quite the year for fans of Goku and friends, with the franchise seeing an influx of video game, film, and TV news so far. Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is an open-world action role-playing game that was developed by CuberConnect2 and published by Bandai Namco, and although it has received mixed reviews since it was released back in 2020, it has sold nearly five million copies worldwide, which shows the power of the franchise.

The current-generation upgrade for Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot was officially announced last month during the Tokyo Game Show, which was supported by the news that the developer would still be active in updating the game well into the new year. CyberConnect2 confirmed the release of a new DLC that follows the events of Bardock: The Father of Goku and a full second season pass, with two more yet-to-be-announced DLC packs being scheduled for later in the year.

But before we look too far into the future, the current-gen upgrade will be zooming in first, and it will be the perfect way to settle into the New Year. The upgrade will massively improve every aspect that the game currently has for the older-generation consoles such as visual upgrades and 60fps performance. And here’s a little sprinkle of good news just to top it off: these versions will be available as free upgrades for people who own the game for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

It does seem strange – in a positive sense though – that this game is still receiving continued support after all these years. The fact fat that multiple DLC packs based on films such as Dragon Ball Z: Battle of the Gods and Resurrection F have been introduced in the years since, as well as an extra story that was inspired by The History of Trunks is quite something. As we mentioned earlier, the game was met with a hot and cold reaction from fans, but the concept is brilliant; an open-world Dragon Ball Z game is what we’ve all been after since day one. Open-world maps have been experimented with in games such as Dragon Ball Z: Budokai 3, but it was never to the extent of this game and still felt slightly limited.

With a concept as interesting as this is, as well as the money and the years that were spent on it, it does make sense to keep the interest high with updates, cool new DLC packs, and upgrades, because why not? We’ll be sure to keep an interest on the soon-to-be-released console upgrades of the game when they come out next year, that’s for sure. You can even check out the reveal trailer below.
