Battle Royale games were honestly not around until very recently. Once they took off, though, the floodgates could not be held back. Here are a few such titles you can play on just the PS5!
#15 Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodhunt
Who here wants to be a vampire? That many? Alright then, let’s talk about Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodhunt. We think it’ll pique your interest.
You’ll get to customize your own “creature of the night,” then partake in battles where you’ll team up with other vampires to take down squads of foes. Or, be a solo striker and take out any you come across! The choice is yours.
As you traverse the city of Prague, you’ll feed off of humans to grow your strength. Get enough and become the unstoppable vampire you’ve always dreamed of being!
Step out into the night, and be the terror that all living things fear!
#14 Realm Royale
The original Realm Royale had its issues, so it was reborn to help bring back the players who liked some of the original features versus what was brought in later.
Now, the game is back at full power, and you’ll have a blast as you pick a champion to battle with and see how many foes you can take down. Pick the class of warrior you want to be, then rush to the battlefield to get special weapons and abilities and kill your enemies.
You’ll be in teams, too, so help one another to keep them alive. Oh, and when death comes a knocking? Don’t fret just yet, as you’ll turn into a chicken and have a chance to be reborn.
#13 CRSED FOAD
At first, CRSED FOAD might seem like a standard battle royale. You play against others as you race to the center of the map so that you don’t get killed by fog. All the while also trying to be the last man standing. Basic, right?
Except, CRSED FOAD throws in twists via the kinds of weapons and abilities you can use. On top of guns, you’ll have access to rocket launchers, jet packs, unholy magic, minions you can summon to help you, and more! First, you’ll need to find out what style best suits you, then play to its strengths in future fights.
When that’s not enough to satisfy you, dress up for the occasion and ensure you stand out from the crowd.
#12 Battlefield V Firestorm
Battlefield V Firestorm is an example of a battle royale idea not going as planned for multiple reasons. When EA released it, it was right on top of another big battle royale release we’ll discuss later. The two didn’t compare to each other, as Battlefield V Firestorm was too big for its own good, had a terrible inventory system, and didn’t feel as fast-paced as others on this list.
True, EA has improved it over the three years since its launch, but it’s still lacking in critical areas. But if nothing else, it’s a solid enough title that EA will hopefully improve on in the future.
#11 Worms Rumble
The Worms are back!
It’s true; Worms Rumble will dive into the franchise and put 32 players against each other in intense combat where death is always closer than you expect. With modes like Deathmatch and Last Worm Standing, you’ll have to think fast, react even quicker, and use various classic weapons from the franchise to overcome the threats from all around.
Just to be clear, this isn’t turn-based like the rest of the franchise. Battles are in real-time, so you’ll need to keep the pace up, so you don’t get swarmed! Cross-platform play helps ensure that matches get filled to the brim. So get ready for action as the Worms try to take each other out!
#10 Super Animal Royale
Super Animal Royale puts animals instead of people as playable characters and creates a unique world to enjoy.
Set in an abandoned safari park where only the animals remain, it’s survival of the furriest! Pick your animal, spread across the land as you gather items, improve your arsenal, and try to outlast 63 other players!
The game is intense, but it also has deep lore, should you look for it. Talk with the NPCs and learn more about what happened in this world that caused it to fall.
Or, focus on the combat and mow down players in various animalistic ways! Wield machine guns, hamster balls, emus, and more to be the last creature standing!
#9 Z1 Battle Royale
H1Z1 brought the “King of the Hill” mode to new heights in its prime. But now, with Z1 Battle Royale, you’ll get to play that on a grander scale. Whether you play solo, in duos, or groups of five, your mission will be the same: wipe everyone else out.
At first, the game’s reception wasn’t the best, lacking content compared to other titles. However, a new game dev team stepped in and helped reorganize and reboot the title so that people could enjoy it again.
Environments have been revamped; modes altered for the better; there’s more seasonal content to enjoy, and so on. So give it a shot if you haven’t in a while.
#8 Hunt Showdown
Hunt Showdown puts several twists on the battle royale formula, starting with the game’s setting.
You’ll be in Louisiana back in 1895. Monsters have taken residence in the local bayou, and you’re here to take them down. You can try to take them on alone or pair up with friends to help make the fight easier.
Yet that’s only half the battle. Because in this PVPVE game, once the monster is dead, all the players on the map will seek you out to get the bounty for themselves. The one who keeps it receives the reward, and the ones killed have to start from scratch. So make sure that’s not you.
#7 Spellbreak
The world of Spellbreak is one where magic has been bound and sealed away. The Vowkeepers took it, and now it’s up to you to take it back.
Become a powerful wielder of magic across various classes, each with unique abilities and powers. Then, use your powerful gauntlets to fuse powers for devastating combos. Finally, try multiple ones out to see which you like the best!
Power won’t be enough to help you. You’ll have to use the map to your advantage and seek the perfect places to strike enemies. Each new chapter of the game adds more depth and lore, which will no doubt keep you coming back.
#6 Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout
While most battle royale titles are intense shooters, Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout goes a different route to entertain players.
You’ll compete in a variety of crazy obstacle courses and games. The goal is to reach the end and ensure that many players get knocked off in the process. Unfortunately, your avatars are pudgy little things, and their mobility isn’t the best. So adapt and ensure you don’t get caught in the hustle and bustle of moving around the course!
Plus, like many battle royale titles, you can earn skins to dress up your characters and look fabulous as you play.
#5 Super Bomberman R Online
Many people forget that Bomberman has been around since the early days of video games. He’s had multiple titles on consoles, handles, and the PC. Super Bomberman R Online is the biggest game the bomber has ever been in, and you’ll want to participate in that experience.
Each match can have up to 64 players in it, each of you vying to be the best bomber by strategically placing bombs around the map.
Move around the map carefully, get power-ups to make your bombs deadlier, and take out the competition! Plus, get unique skins so that your character has some extra personality!
#4 PlayerUnknown Battlegrounds
Every video game genre has a starting point, a game that pushes boundaries. It pushes them beyond previous titles, and a new way of playing is born as a result. With battle royales, PlayerUnknown Battlegrounds was the OG.
The game started in Steam Early Access, and it stayed there for a long time as it built up its loyal fanbase and broke all sorts of Steam records. It had millions of concurrent players during its peak, more than any that came before it and some since.
The only problem was it got complacent, allowing another title to take the crown from them. But it’s still around and has plenty to do should you play.
#3 Call of Duty Warzone
Given how vast the battle royale space has gotten, it was only a matter of time before the significant first-person-shooter franchises dove in to make their money from the genre. Call of Duty Warzone is the result of that, and it has made its mark.
The game is free-to-play like many of the others. It’s even getting a revamp to mobile and getting an upgrade through the upcoming mainline title. If you subscribe to it now, you’ll get special rewards when the launch of the upgraded version happens.
They have high hopes and big plans for what comes next for the title, should you want to be a part of it.
#2 Apex Legends
Apex Legends is one of many games on this list with a certain amount of irony. In its case, it had to do with the title’s launch. Because it came out of nowhere, was not announced previously, and suddenly you could play it on your phones and other systems. That’s a bold move that many developers wouldn’t even risk doing.
But it worked! Apex Legends is now one of the best battle royale titles out there, and they’re constantly improving it via player feedback. New modes, characters, and skins are all added on a loop, and the game gets better with each iteration.
#1 Fortnite
The irony of Fortnite is not lost on us. It was a game that didn’t start as a battle royale title. It was going to be a building game where you protected yourself against zombies. They copied the formula of PUBG and put their colorful spin on it. The rest is history, and Fortnite remains one of the most-played games years later.
You’ll play across various game modes as you try to outlast the competition in intense 50-person rounds. But why be a regular avatar character when you can be one of the many characters they’ve brought in for the game? Goku, Superman, John Wick, Ariana Grande, and more await you!
Jump onto the island and have some fun!
