Ubisoft Reveals New Co-Op Shooter Project U

September 30, 2022 by Alexandra Nicholson

Rgistrations for the game’s closed playtest are now open.

It’s been a busy year for Ubisoft already and it doesn’t look like that’s going to be slowing down any time soon. Along with its multiple upcoming Assassin’s Creed projects, the recently-delayed Skull and Bones and a variety of other in-the-works titles, the publisher has just revealed another new game.

The title, which is somewhat cryptically codenamed “Project U” was spotted earlier today as Ubisoft has now created a dedicated webpage for the game on its website. Described as “a new concept of session-based co-op shooter,” Project U seems as though it could be some form of a multiplayer action title, although in general, details are pretty thin on the ground about it at the moment. It’s also explained that in Project U, “many players unite to prevail against an overwhelming threat,” which is kind of vague but at least gives us some idea of what might be on the cards.

Ubisoft has also announced that the new game will soon be ready for closed playtest and is inviting interested players to register to take part. There’s no date listed for when this will take place, however, players will need to take part on a PC as opposed to on consoles. Ubisoft has also outlined the minimum and recommended specifications to take part in the closed playtest for Project U, which are listed below.

  • Minimum requirements: 30 FPS: OS: Windows 10 CPU: Intel Core i5-4460, AMD Ryzen 3 1200 GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070 (8GB of VRAM) or AMD Radeon RX Vega 64 (8GB of VRAM).
  • Recommended requirements: RAM: 16 GB dual channel 60 FPS: OS: Windows 10 CPU: Intel Core i7-6700K, AMD Ryzen 5 2600 GPU: Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060 (8GB of VRAM) or AMD Radeon RX Vega 64 (8GB of VRAM) RAM: 16 GB dual channel.

Project U is not to be confused with the similarly titled Project Q, which is confirmed to also be in early development at Ubisoft. That game is expected to be a new team battle royale-style title, which Ubisoft has described as an “innovative and modern PvP battle arena game” in emails that were sent out to playtest participants earlier in the year. This might mean that Project U is a game along the same vein as Project Q, but with perhaps a more co-op, objective or story-based focus than its PvP battle arena counterpart. This is of course, merely speculation, but if you’re going to use fairly adjacent letters of the alphabet in your codenames, what’s a bit of speculation amongst friends?

We’ll be keeping an ear to the ground for more information on Project U as it comes out. In the meantime, interested players can sign up now to take part in the game’s upcoming closed playtest on the Ubisoft Project U webpage.
