Upcoming Game Starfield Has Fans Preparing to Make Mods

August 15, 2022 by Sam Arthurs

Just in case!

Starfield is Bethesda’s newest space action RPG set to come out next year. It will be the first fully original IP developed by Bethesda in 25 years, and though the company has had tremendously successful games in the past, loyal fans also know what to expect upon release. After the numerous bugs found in Fallout, Skyrim, and other Elder Scrolls games, they feel that it’s better to be prepared. That’s the reasoning behind the new large-scale community project: the Starfield Community Patch (SCP)!

Some of the more memorable bugs from past games are remembered with humor at least. There’s the spinning head in Fallout: Las Vegas and the giant chickens in Skyrim. These games were created using Bethesda’s Creation Engine, so Starfield may actually turn out without too many bugs. The game will be created using a modified version of the Creation Engine, but it’s hard to be completely optimistic after so many buggy releases.

On the Starfield Community Patch’s Modding Wiki page, the organizers of the group explained the scope of the project with a couple of bulleted lists of what they will include in the project and what they will not. They stress that the point of this community is to correct bugs and errors as quickly and smoothly as possible by working as a community rather than as a single entity or group. To that end, the fixes they will do include fixing misplaced or inconsistent objects, game-breaking exploits, and a variety of text and script-based issues, like spelling errors and missing attributes. They will not be including new content or tweaks that change the game significantly from the original vision. The mod will be available for free on Nexus Mods.

If you’re unfamiliar with the new game, Starfield is an upcoming space-action RPG that follows the journey of a Constellation space explorer. Taking place 20 years after a war between the United Colonies and the Freestar collective, there is an uneasy peace in The Settled Solar Systems. As an explorer, you will venture out and discover what amazing planets there are to visit. Players will be able to fully customize the protagonist and choose to play in first- or third-person perspective, so there is a lot of freedom to make the gaming experience unique. The director of Starfield described it as “Skyrim in space,” which sounds very promising. It will be cool to see what amazing creatures and technology the developers came up with.

Starfield does not have a specific release date yet, but it is estimated to come out early in 2023. It will be available to play on Microsoft Windows and Xbox Series X|S. In the meantime, here are 24 new space games of 2022 that you can use to tide you over!
