Pokken’s Mystery Fighter Is Chandelure; Connect Two Wii Us For LAN Play

January 15, 2016 by Ryan Parreno

Pachirisu has finally been confirmed too, but as a support Pokemon.

I think it’s safe to say you could not have guessed Pokken Tournament’s latest entrant, as well as what else Bandai Namco revealed today.

The mystery Pokemon is Chandelure, which is more or less a floating chandelier with a face. Chandelure’s powers are just as weird. His fires don’t burn opponents like, say, Charizard’s fire does. Instead, it burns their spirit. By waving these flames around, Chandelure can hypnotize opponents and then absorb their spirit.

Chandelure will have a reveal trailer in a tournament this coming January 31, so it should be fun to see how he’s going to play.

If that didn’t excite you, the following news should. You can connect two Wii Us to play Pokken via LAN cable. Doing this will allow you to play the game at 60 FPS.

Pokken’s other modes and features were also revealed. The standard Single Battle mode has three difficulty levels. There is also local battle, when the game will run at 30 FPS, presumably to output both player’s videos (one on the GamePad). Finally, there’s online mode, where you can fight in competitions and earn rank.

Finally, we also have newly revealed Support Pokemon. Pachirisu, Magikarp, Sylveon, and Croagunk are all making it in the game as support. While it's disappointing that tournament winning Pachirisu has been relegated to support, maybe it will be given abilities that match its power in the main games, making it the most desirable support.

Pokken Tournament will be released on Wii U on Q2 2016.
