Venom as a franchise is arguably something that shouldn’t have happened, with many delays leading up to its first release years ago. With a clear divide people between people who think it’s good, people who think it’s bad, and people who think it’s so bad that it’s good, it’s not a film many expected to be as successful as it was in the end. Let There Be Carnage, the sequel, didn’t do as well as the first, but it did well enough to warrant the creation of Venom 3.
Venom 3 is in production, and as Tom Hardy noted in the Instagram post above, he’s actually helping make the story for the third film. This isn’t surprising as Hardy has helped carry this franchise overall given its very different take on Eddie Brock and Venom–especially their relationship. Plus, after the second movie, he noted that he wanted to be “involved with the process.”
It’s unclear what the story will be as of yet, but many fans are expecting a crossover with Spider-Man. After all, the MCU crossover that was teased at the end of the second movie turned out to be less than nothing, and Eddie went back to his “own world.”
That’s not to say there’s no room to maneuver, but if you think about the characters most associated with Venom, it’s other symbiotes like Carnage. We’ll just have to see who or what shows up to fight Venom in the next film.
