Pokémon Red, Pokémon Blue, and Pokémon Yellow are coming to Nintendo 3DS eShop via the Virtual Console system.
The games will appear just as they did in their original forms when they were released in the 90s, however, instead of trading Pokémon through a Game Boy Link Cable (remember those?), players will trade via the 3DS’ built-in wireless capabilities.
The three games will be available on Feb. 27, 2016, exactly 20 years after the original releases of Pokémon Red and Pokémon Blue in Japan in 1996.

In other Pokémon news, Nintendo recently announced the smartphone-only Pokémon Go for iOS and Android devices. Developer Niantic also recently revealed that it had acquired $30 million in venture capital funding from Nintendo, Google, and The Pokemon Company. Additionally, Pokémon X, Pokémon Y, Pokémon Omega Ruby, or Pokémon Alpha Sapphire players can head to their local McDonald’s to download a free Pokémon called Hoopa, which will start out at level 50. The promotion at McDonald’s will take place from Nov. 27-Dec. 23.
