Fallout 4’s Protagonist Voice Actor Talks Romance and Role-Playing

November 9, 2015 by Ian Miles Cheong

Fallout 4 voice actor Brian T. Delaney had a lot to say about how he engaged player romances in his role as the male protagonist.

Voice actor Brian T. Delaney is responsible for voicing the protagonist in Fallout 4, one of the year’s most highly anticipated video game releases. The game is out in less than a day, and there’s a few things you can do to pass the time once you’re done listening to this interview.

The actor recently spoke with 640Toronto’s Andy Borkowski about his role. He gives some color on the VO process and most importantly provides some behind-the0scenes coverage of exactly how the game’s new romance system was developed on his end.

Delaney talks about how the protagonist can have a multitude of different relationships with the game’s large ensemble, with various attitudes, and how he never even saw their character models or what they looked like.

“So I never really thought about that in the moment that what I was saying was a line for a specific person, but instead just honoured the situation. The only thing that I can really think of that would colour the line would be their job, their mission, their quest, and just generally what they had going on.

That would be contained in the lines sometimes, but sometimes it was just that what I was saying was an honest statement, honest request, or honest flirtation. Now that you mention in and I’m thinking about it, I guess i would say there was a difference.

My tone would change depending on whether it was one sex or another, or when I think of Piper, I think of how she’s like a badass Lois Lane feel. I would respond differently in the images I would think of when talking to Preston vs Piper vs the rest.”

You can check out his entire interview below.

Fallout 4 comes out on the PC, Xbox One and PS4 on November 10, 2015. Be sure to check out the list of names Codsworth is capable of saying.
