No Man’s Sky Developer Denies Stealth Launch Rumors, Hello Games ‘Has Only One Shot’

October 26, 2015 by Ryan Parreno

Sean also took the time to address some common questions about the game.

Hello Games’ Sean Murray heard that rumor you heard about No Man’s Sky, and no, it’s not true.

For those asking, we are still incredibly hard at work on No Man's Sky, but it's going really well.

— Sean Murray (@NoMansSky) October 25, 2015

We get one shot to make this game, and we don't want to mess it up. Hope that's ok.

— Sean Murray (@NoMansSky) October 25, 2015

If you didn’t hear, there was a rumor running around that No Man’s Sky would be releasing discreetly tomorrow, October 27, and it would be announced as part of the upcoming PlayStation Experience event. Sean came up on Twitter to declare that Hello was still working on the game. Development is going well, but they are erring on the side of caution, so they are in no rush to release it.

Sean directly acknowledged the rumor and flatly denied it as well.

.@dojo_ninja I heard that rumour that NMS is stealth releasing on Oct 27th. It is false

— Sean Murray (@NoMansSky) October 25, 2015

Sean also took the time to address some common questions about the game. Hello Games does not update fans on their progress as frequently as, say, Cloud Imperium Games does for Star Citizen. Regarding, say, using Reddit to keep fans up to date, Sean says Hello is spending that time making the game instead. He also points out some developers who frequent Reddit have ulterior motives in doing so.

.@Asszem Mostly because we are so focused making the game. Also devs on reddit often have ulterior motives, and I don't want to be that guy

— Sean Murray (@NoMansSky) October 25, 2015

Sean also addressed an inquiry about using Early Access. Hello has given it consideration, but decided that it isn’t suitable for No Man’s Sky.

.@robbiegumness @BookshelfGuy We have given Early Access a lot of thought this year. It suits some games, but it's not right for NMS.

Do you think Hello Games is taking the right approach with developing and updating fans about the game? How could they be doing better? Share your thoughts with us in the comments.
