A rumor is going around that Fallout 4 will have Nvidia Gameworks.
Not all gamers welcome this rumor, as Gameworks has a spotty reputation for bad optimization. There is also increasing concern the program serves to the detriment of AMD card users, as developers actively improve performance metrics for Nvidia cards.
Gameworks’ recent implementation of Grand Theft Auto 5 should assuage these fears, as Rockstar was able to implement optimizations for both Nvidia and AMD cards in equal measure, and with good results. Our source says they are hearing Bethesda will make the same kinds of optimizations, and implementation of the Gameworks program will come without vendor specific badges. Bethesda will likely not promote GameWorks too aggressively, and will hide these settings for fans to behind in their graphics settings menus.
If the rumor is true, it is more likely that Nvidia will be confirming it themselves, with details on Gameworks-specific optimizations.
PC ports of multiplatform games like Batman Arkham Knight have recently been disappointments, shipping with missing and/or broken features. Many fans speculate these developers have simply chosen to unprioritize these ports for consoles, and there’s a worry Bethesda will do the same, as they themselves are often accused of bad ports.
