Assassin’s Creed Syndicate will be introducing a trans male character into the series.
The man’s name is Ned Wynert, and few details about him have been revealed for now, but we do know he dispenses some of the quests for the player characters.
On the side, this may not lead to anything, but a Google search for Ned Wynert’s name leads to Adam Worth. Adam Worth was the proclaimed Napoleon of Crime, and was active around the same era as Assassin’s Creed Syndicate’s setting.
While Assassin’s Creed Syndicate is significant for adding a trans character to the franchise, it also starts a new precedent. As a series first, you will be able to choose between two characters to play as throughout the game, namely, twins Jacob and Evie Frye.
Ubisoft also updated their statement for the game with this text:
Inspired by historical events and characters, this work of fiction was designed, developed, and produced by a multicultural team of various beliefs, sexual orientations and gender identities.
While this is an encouraging move from the developer, especially following the criticism of a lack of a female playable character in Assassins’ Creed Unity, gamers are skeptical about something else about the game; namely, the quality of the final product come launch.
