Street Fighter V On PC Will Use Steamworks, System Requirements Are High And Mighty

September 23, 2015 by Ryan Parreno

You better be prepared to break the bank if you’re committed to getting it for PC.

Capcom has started revealing more details for Street Fighter V’s pending release on Steam.

First off, the online fighting game will use Steamworks for its matchmaking, networking, and leaderboards elements. As gamers may have noted regarding Street Fighter IV, Steamworks is serviceable for online, but it does not quite match up as well as PSN or Xbox Live.

For that matter, Steamworks is usually a stopgap for when the developer can’t supply these services themselves. Capcom’s announcement made no mention of Capcom Fighters Network, but it would be a genuine surprise if that ended up being PSN only. Sony and Capcom have been adamant about branding their Street Fighter 5 collaboration as a partnership, instead of an exclusivity agreement. If they are on the level, Capcom Fighters Network would be available to Steam players.

Capcom’s announcement made no mention of GOG Galaxy either, but given how quickly GOG’s client is progressing, it may be possible to get Capcom’s latest fighter completely DRM free somewhere down the line. Is this something you would be interested in? Share your thoughts with us in the comments.

Regarding system requirements, Street Fighter V is clearly leaning towards one of the more power intensive games in recent memory. You can run it on an i3 4160, assuming it can generate 3.60 GHz. If you do get a more powerful processor it goes down to 3.50 GHz. Street Fighter V also requires DirectX 11 and at least 6 GB DDR3.
