Gunzilla Games Finally Announces Next Project

May 5, 2022 by John McDonald

Backed by Neill Blomkamp.

A mysterious studio called Gunzilla Games may have made itself onto your news feed over the past couple of years, and yet, we all wondered what they would be up to. The studio opened back in 2020 and had already acquired quite the list of bludgeoning talent from several AAA games studios. Well now, they have released some details about their first-ever game – it’s taken quite some time, but they finally got there.

The title of the game is ‘Off the Grid’, and it has been described as a AAA Battle Royale third-person shooter, with a planned release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC sometime next year. We know what you’re thinking because we’re thinking it as well, could this be the first AAA first-person shooter exclusive only to next-gen platforms? Well, depending on the actual release date, it very well could be.

What is interesting about this project is that the famed science fiction director Neill Blomkamp (known for District 9 and Elysium, as well as some epic short films) has already given the studio his support and has even been brought in to help with the game’s story. And with Blomkamp involved, it gives us an idea of what to expect when the game comes out – imagine a dystopian future, with a cyberpunk style and something that will almost certainly involve aliens of some kind.

If this is sounding great to you but you are still struggling to visualize something, then take a look at the teaser trailer below to help you with that.

Some details we do know is that this new Gunzilla Games project will have 150-player PvP and PvE lobbies, with story missions set on the same map with other players in real-time. Players will have the bonus of being able to control how the story unfolds, as each decision will affect everyone’s gameplay – now, that is sounding like a lot of fun.

The Battle Royale market is already growing at an electrifying pace, so let’s see what Gunzilla Games can do with this exciting project when it comes out in 2023.
