PS4/PS5 Owners Having Issues Getting Online

March 23, 2022 by Todd Black

I Am Error

It’s fair to say that gaming technology has come an incredibly long way over the years, but, that doesn’t mean that it’s immune to certain issues and bugs and glitches that could strike at any given moment. And for this particular morning for PS4 and PS5 owners, that would be a very true statement. Because there are a lot of people who have been trying to connect online to play titles like Elden Ring, GTA online, Call of Duty Vanguard and more, but are getting error messages: “Could not verify PlayStation Plus subscription.”

Yeah, that’s not good, wouldn’t you say? According to Sony’s PlayStation Network service status page, “some services are experiencing issues.” That includes gaming and social features, PlayStation Now game streaming, and the PlayStation Store.

So what caused such an issue? That would be a software update across the PS4 and PS5. Though at first, it was initially believed to be something wrong with Elden Ring specifically as many players (over 12 million have bought the game if you recall) who had the game tried to login online as they played it, but instead were thrust into the offline mode. But, as other players experience similar issues, it was revealed to be a system update that cause the malfunction.
Somewhat ironically, Elden Ring specifically was also having issues on Steam, but apparently, the Steam issues have been fixed while the Sony consoles issues are…still apparently going on.

That doesn’t mean you all should panic though, given the widespread nature of this incident and the games that it’s affecting, you can bet that a fix will be coming presently. It might just mean though that you’ll have to limit your game time today, or be doing offline mode for a little bit. Stay tuned to the console’s various feeds to see when a fix drops.
