The more things change, the more they stay the same. As video games get more advanced and more realistic, players still seem to yearn for something more simple and nostalgic. Sitting around the table with family and friends playing a board game is something that never gets old, and more and more game franchises are seeing tabletop adaptations, from Stardew Valley to Dark Souls. Announced by Dicebreaker, Dead by Daylight is the newest game to see this transformation.
Board and card game developer Level 99 is in charge of the project, with a Kickstarter campaign set to begin on March 29. While the game is still in production, the team shared a few images of the figures included. The Trapper, Wraith, Nurse, and Doctor are all ready to chase the Survivors, who include Meg, Jake, Feng Min, Charlotte, and Dwight.
It should be noted that the figures will arrive unpainted, and the ones shown above were professionally painted by Level 99’s sculpting team.
The survival horror game is traditionally played in a one-versus-four online multiplayer setup, with one player taking on the role of a killer while the other four play as survivors trying to escape. If caught, players are sacrificed to an evil force known only as the ‘Entity.’
“As fans of the original video game, we worked hard to capture the tension between the Survivors and the Killer on every turn,” said board game designer D. Brad Talton Jr. in a press release. “The moment when you commit to your move and then have to hold your breath while the Killer makes their play—to me that’s the essence of Dead by Daylight.”
Dead by Daylight was originally released for the PC in 2016. In 2017, the game made its way to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One and was added to the Nintendo Switch library in 2019. The new PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S editions were released in November 2020. On March 8, the game will begin a crossover event with the Japanese psychological horror franchise The Ring.
