The Elder Scrolls Online publisher Bethesda has explained that the game will not require a one-time use code, mere hours after claiming that one would be necessary.
A Bethesda representative claimed last that all copies of the game on console would ship with a one-time use activation key which would permanently register the game with your account.
"To clarify, you will need a unique game registration code in order to play the game, and used copies will not be eligible to receive a key if the code has already been redeemed," the company said on its official forums.
If this had been the case, the game would have no trade-in or resale value. Bethesda has now issued a statement clarifying that this is not the case.
"In case you were wondering: The console disc version of ESOTU works like other boxed console games and doesn't require a one-time use code," Bethesda tweeted.
A spokesperson added "The physical console version of The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited does not require a one-time game code.
"As with any other boxed PS4/Xbox One game, only the game disc is needed for verification. Any previous statements counter to this were incorrect."
The Elder Scrolls Online will launch on June 9th and features a 15GB day one patch.
