NBA 2K16 Adds Spike Lee, Has Three Cover Stars

April 28, 2015 by Stephen Daly

Stephen Curry, James Harden, and Kevin Durant to appear on game’s cover.

New York Knicks fan and Oscar-nominated filmmaker Spike Lee has been added to the development team of NBA 2K16, Polygon reports.

2K Sports declined to comment on the report, but the game's cover reads "Be the story," and features three different players — Stephen Curry of Golden State, James Harden of Houston, and Kevin Durant of Oklahoma City — which will tell social media followers that they're "starring [in] the new Spike Lee Joint!"

Lee also gets a credit on the game's cover, as Jay-Z did in 2012 when he was celebrity executive producer for NBA 2K13.

The New York Post wrote in March that he was "in San Francisco working on an NBA video-game project," and attended a Knicks game at the University of San Francisco during his visit. 2K Games and in-house sports studio Visual Concepts, is located in a suburb north of the City by the Bay. A sideline reporter at a Knicks also mentioned he was involved in the game shortly afterwards.

2K Sports previously offered different covers in 2011 when Jordan, Magic Johnson, and Larry Bird appeared separately, while three stars — Blake Griffin, Derrick Rose, and Durant — were featured on the cover of NBA 2K13. If Durant is indeed back, it will mark his third appearance on the box art for the series.

While NBA 2K16 has not yet been given an official release date, previous games have launched on the first Tuesday of October. It's likely that the game is in development for PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.

2K Sports has yet to confirm details about the game, but fans have already suggested some improvements they'd like to see for MyCareer mode.
